Testing FAQs
How do I get my blood drawn?
If you’ve already met with your provider and they have placed orders, they have done so with Labcorp (by default) or Quest Diagnostics (if your plan requires it; your provider likely confirmed this with you before ordering any labs from Quest, as this constitutes only about 5% of our patients).
We advise that you schedule an appointment with Labcorp here or Quest (if you know they were sent there) here.
These labs don’t require you to have an appointment, but those with appointments are prioritized. Those without appointments may be asked to wait in a waiting room or outside.
You do not need a lab order reference number to schedule a lab appointment - your provider has sent the orders to the lab directly, so they only need your contact information to schedule a visit.
While booking an appointment with your lab, that lab will have specific instructions on how to check in with them upon arrival.
What about urine tests?
Labcorp and Quest Diagnostics will ask you to leave a urine sample after your blood draw if your provider has ordered any urine tests.
Where do I get my self-swab supplies?
Neither Labcorp nor Quest Diagnostics employees do any kind of swab testing (either for COVID-19 or for STI screening). For this reason, patients who have had self-swab lab tests ordered by their provider need to pick up self-swab kits from our clinic.
There is a box outside of our clinic door (Cabrini Tower hours are 7am to 7pm) that will have a stapled paper bag with your initials and DOB on it. Inside you will find the supplies you need to self swab including long swabs, pre-labeled tubes, and a lab slip that needs to accompany the samples.
How do I do a self-swab?
You may use the restroom by the elevators (single, private stall) to self-swab, then carry the bag with samples and lab slip to your Labcorp appointment.
Vagina or front hole instructions
(for throat swabs: if your gag reflex is too strong to obtain an ideal sampling, swabbing spit from the back of the throat is an imperfect but better-than-nothing approach)
How do I get a COVID antibody test to see if I’ve already had it?
This is a test that needs to be discussed with your provider via telemedicine visit before they order it for you through Labcorp or Quest Diagnostics.
